TNYC STEM Fair has two rounds of judging; 1- Preliminary Round (virtual) and 2- Finals Round (in-person). Usually 75-80% of the projects advance to Preliminary Round as long as they have a complete application following all rules and paperwork. Preliminary Round is judged asynchronously over ten days based students submitted work and presentation videos. Usually, 20-30% of the projects at Preliminary Round advances to the Finals Round. The Finals Round is judged in-person over two days. It usually takes more than one participation to advance to Finals Round as it requires very good base knowledge and presentation skills to succeed. Therefore, never give up for trying a second year. TNYC STEM Fair exhibitors compete for a variety of awards. The culminating prize is advancing to the international round and representing NYC at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). 15 projects will advance to Regeneron ISEF fair, which is held in person at different major city in US, usually in third week of May. TNYC STEM Fair Finalist team will join to all other Terra Fairs Finalists from NY state to compete with over 1800 finalists from around the world.
